Highlights of the September 3, 2024, Membership Meeting
The regularly scheduled monthly member meeting of the Mill Creek Rifle Club was called to order by President Michael Borkon at 7:29 p.m., September 3, 2024, in the Clubhouse. In attendance were approximately six members, 30 guests, and 11 board members. A quorum was present.
In officer reports:
- President Michael Borkon discussed the formal naming of the Bench Rest Range to the Chet Whitebread Memorial Bench Rest Range, formation of a club Foundation to support giving opportunities, the first Benefit Auction to benefit the new foundation scheduled for September 4 at Ron Stricker's Auction in Gardner, Kansas, and the upcoming Mill Creek annual Club Picnic and Swap Meet scheduled for September 7.
- In the absence of the Vice President, Mr. Borkon reminded members to check the Events and Range Calendar for range availability before coming out to the club.
- Treasurer Brad Thomas reported that for the first seven months of this year, the club was higher in revenue compared to the same period last year but also higher in operating expenses. He estimated about 70 percent of the funds earmarked for club projects in last year's budget had been spent to date. He reported emergency reserves and surplus reserves both remained strong.
- Membership Director Curt Cotton presented 28 candidates for membership induction. Motion to accept the class was accepted unanimously.
- Construction Director John Krudwig reported he has finalized construction bids for the proposed improvements to the new ranges.
- Maintenance Director Eric Sigg reported the Clubhouse HVAC improvements have been completed, gravel updates had been finished, and that tree trimming work was scheduled to begin in October. He noted the fall club volunteer workday has been scheduled for October 19 and asked members to volunteer to pitch in.
- Public Relations Director Mike Smith reminded members to use the Contact Information tab on the club website to provide feedback, ask questions, register complaints, or offer any other information to the board of directors.
- Technology Director Kyle Gibson reported he continues coordinating with StarLink to attempt to upgrade the club's WiFi service.
- Legislative Director Paul Day discussed progress in forming the new club charitable foundation, including the new board of directors for the organization. He emphasized the importance of registering in the upcoming November 5 election and recommended members keep up to date on Second Amendment related issues by using the following resources:
