Mill Creek Officer and Director Nominations are Open until January 15

As a non-profit organization, Mill Creek Rifle Club is overseen by an all-volunteer board of officers and directors elected by you, the membership. If you're interested in becoming part of that leadership team, or if you know of a good candidate you'd like to recommend, the elections nominating committee would like to hear from you.

 As directed by the Club By Laws, biannual elections for the three club officers and a portion of the board of directors will be held at the annual meeting of the members of Mill Creek Rifle Club, at 7:30 p.m., March 5, 2024.

Those positions up for election at the March 5, 2024, meeting will include:

  • Officers - Elected to 2-year terms
    • President. The president’s responsibilities include conducting all membership, board, annual and special meetings, and assigning tasks to other board members as needed to manage club affairs. The president is also the club’s official spokesman.
    • Vice president. The vice president assumes the responsibilities of the president in his absence. In addition, the vice president schedules, coordinates, and obtains board approval for scheduled range events, except those on the Law Enforcement ranges. He also maintains a current schedule on the club website.
    • Treasurer. The treasurer is responsible for club banking arrangements, paying authorized expenses, maintaining and advising the board on current balances, preparing and maintaining a statement showing budget and expenditures, preparing and filing tax returns and related reports, and securing club insurance. The treasurer also maintains all club affiliations.
  • Directors - Elected to 3-year terms
    • Legislative director. This position guides club efforts in all legislative matters. This includes but is not limited to: Advising the board and membership of current legislative activities, recommending and initiating related club measures, and maintaining relationships and coordinating activities with other groups with similar interests.
    • Maintenance director. This director is responsible for securing and supervising the routine maintenance and repair of club grounds, buildings, target frames, and other major property items. This includes securing maintenance personnel and/or hiring specialty vendors within the authorizations set by the bylaws.
    • Safety director. This director is responsible for establishing range safety measures, including but not limited to updating, maintaining, and posting club range rules; preparing and posting signs defining individual range limitations; and pursuing other measures deemed appropriate to ensure a safe environment for members and guests. This position is also responsible for seeing that safety incidents are thoroughly investigated and recommendations brought to the board, where appropriate.
    • Technology director. This director is responsible for maintaining technologies owned and used by Mill Creek Rifle Club, including but not limited to secure databases, computer networks, digital storage devices, security systems and technologies, gate and building access systems, wired and wireless communications systems, and the proper functioning and integration of other existing and emerging technologies. The Technology Director will be responsible for evaluating technological upgrades or additions, obtaining bids as needed to price such projects, working with other board members to ensure that any contracted work is performed at the lowest cost and with good quality, and evaluating such work prior to payment for the same.

Note: The club secretary is a paid position, appointed by the board and not subject to election by the membership.

A nominating committee, consisting of the directors whose positions are not up for election during this cycle, will receive all nominations. Nominations must be received by the nominating committee no later than 6:30 p.m. January 15, 2024, in order to be placed on the ballot. Per the by-laws, no nominations will be accepted from the floor at the March 5 annual meeting. Nominations may be emailed to any of the nominating committee members specified above.

Members in good standing who are interested in running for any of these positions should contact one of the nominating committee members immediately. Please bear in mind that each of these positions carries significant responsibilities, typically requiring a minimum of a few hours a week to fulfill the obligations of each post. Many officers and directors spend several hours to a few days a month engaged in club business. Interested parties will be issued an informational questionnaire, which must be returned to a member of the nominating committee before the nominations deadline. 

Board and Director Job Descriptions may be found in the Club’s By-Laws. Additionally, board members are expected to attend regular monthly member and board meetings, participate in various committees, make reports and recommendations, account for income and expenditures, and meet the general responsibilities that come with serving an active club made up of nearly 2,000 members, with significant infrastructure to maintain and improve.
